Presentation Skills

What to say and when to say it: No matter how wonderful or important the message, it will only be heard when delivered in an interesting manner. Excellent presentation skills are vital for student leadership and advancement in any profession. A good presenter moderates the pace and power of their words, overcoming any “stage fright” for truly effective communication.

In this session, students learn and evaluate the best practices for presentation gleaned from the nation’s leading presenters and public speakers. Through interactive presentation workshops, students learn how to overcome fears and anxieties about public speaking, strengthen their team and relationship building skills, and practice this vital aspect of student leadership.

Students explore the positive and negative strategies in presenting information, learn the necessities of preparation, and practice speaking confidently before others. This session provides the tools for organizing information, present information, and by using the student’s own thoughts. Students will practice how to ensure they stress key points, use eye contact, and make their presentation interesting as they communicate with their audience.

Students learn how to gage whether an audience is receptive to their presentation style and how to adapt their presentation as they speak to accommodate the audience. They learn tools that will make them stay focused and on-message, even if the audience proves distracting or initially negative.
