Conflict Resolution Using the Mediation Process

Campus Harmony, Inc., trains student leaders with the transformative approach, fostering empowerment and recognition among all parties, as they better understand one another’s perspectives. This approach also fosters opportunities for moral growth during mediation. The program specifically addresses conflict resolution as a student leadership skill, rather than as a subject for professional mediation.

This workshop provides coaching support and guidance during practice simulations of conflict resolution. Students and trainers share experiences and expertise during discussion sessions. All students and trainers have a responsibility to be teachers and learners.

All students and trainers must be open to new insight and share new ways of looking at familiar situations.

There is no uniform regulatory scheme governing the practice of mediation and conflict resolution and, unlike other professions, such as law or medicine, there is no formal licensing of mediators. However, each state does have guidelines of what should be included in a basic mediation class.

In the case of Campus Harmony training, the time spent exploring participant expectations of the workshop will focus our attention on what are realistic expectations for the sessions and what mediation can do for you as a student leader.

Highlights of this program:

* What not to do in resolving conflict.

* Defining expectations ASAP.

* Workshops are adjusted during sessions based on participation and outcomes of discussion sessions.

* Multiple outcomes are explored.

* Recognizing the lifelong learning involved in leadership and successful conflict resolution.
