Diversity/Sensitivity Training

Campus Harmony, Inc., helps students to see the impact of a diverse community on personal and group interaction. Stereotypes and cultural biases are explored with an open and nonjudgmental approach that promotes appreciation of diversity as part of successful mediation, conflict resolution and strong leadership.

Students form groups to draft a Leadership Statement expressing their commitment to creating an environment that values people’s diversity. The workshop then explores how to incorporate diversity sensitivity into everyday club/organization activities at all levels of membership, with scheduled events, recruitment standards, advertising and more.

The program defines the key behaviors of respect, courtesy and consideration for others, by which students demonstrate personal integrity and leadership through accountability. Students also learn the value of being open-minded and listening with empathy.

The program stresses the ethics of diversity sensitivity, from how we treat others socially to managing overt discrimination. Students are encouraged to celebrate diversity in an appropriate, team-building manner that promotes creativity and helps utilize every member’s skills, knowledge and background.
